Canon-Mac Lacrosse Team Continues Winning Streak
The team won 10-9 over Latrobe Thursday night.

Latrobe came to Canon Mac Stadium last night, seemingly unimpressed with the Big Macs six-game winning streak. The visitors came to play and with an impressive offensive attack made quite a game of it in an important Division 2-Section 1 matchup.
What would prove to be a significant point in the game came only six minutes into first quarter with one of the Big Mac players penalized on a three-minute non-releasable foul, Tyler Slovik and Evan Crompton scored short-handed goals for Canon-McMillan, taking the home team to an early 3-0 lead.

Latrobe would come back, however, with three goals of their own before the period came to an end and slowly took the momentum away from the Big Macs.
With the teams tied at the half 6-6, Canon-Mac’s junior Brett Haney scored two goals early in the second half to forge the Big Macs into the lead. But like a cornered cat, Latrobe fought back with two late man-up goals in the fourth quarter to cut a seemingly comfortable three-goal lead to one with 1:18 left in the game.

The Wildcats continued to press the attack but Canon-McMillan desperately held on and escaped with a 10-9 victory as one could almost hear the collective sigh of relief made by the Big Mac fans.
Matt Maletta led Canon-McMillan scorers with three goals and three assists and winning 14 of 19 face-offs. The win takes the overall Big Mac record to 10-1 with an all-important Division record of 4-1 and continues their winning streak to 7 games. Canon-McMillan travels to Trinity to face the Hillers on Monday.
