Canon-Mac Lacrosse Team Mauls Bears

The final score was Canon McMillan 15, Winchester Thurston 9.

Ben Ward (five goals and two assists), Andrew Hendal (four goals), and Matt Maletta (three goals and three assists), led a powerful and unrelenting assault against the Winchester Thurston Bears as the boys lacrosse team with a 15-9 victory at Canon Mac Stadium last night.

Holding on to a slim, one-goal lead with six minutes left in the second period, the Big Macs erupted for five unanswered goals to take control of the game at the half with a 9-3 lead. The teams exchanged goals in the second half and Canon-Mac went on to a Division 2-Section 1 win.

Maletta, Ward and Hendal lead the team in goals this season with 38, 33 and 16 respectively and the Bears were just the latest opponent mauled by the Big Mac attack.

Canon-McMillan has averaged nearly 13 goals per game at just past the half-way mark of the season while holding opponents to seven goals per game.

Tuesday’s win takes the Big Macs’ record to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in Division 2-Section 1 play.

Next on the Big Mac schedule is a game with Greater Latrobe High School at Canon-Mac Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
