Canon-Mac to Showcase Vintage WWII Uniform

The uniform was presented to the district this week.

Area resident Daniel McPoyle presented the World War II uniform of a former Canon-McMillan teacher to school directors Monday.

The uniform, owned by the late Bernard Singer, will be on display at the district.

At a ceremony at the Canon-McMillan School Board meeting earlier this week, teachers Rick Bell and Pat Hudock spoke about the special military uniform.

The late Singer, a former school district teacher, donated his World War II uniform to the school. Hudock’s shop class is discussing plans to build a display case for the treasured item.

“We plan to build a display case to honor not only a veteran but also a former teacher,” Hudock said.

Singer was a veteran of World War II and fought in the Korean War.

McPoyle, a long-time friend of Singer’s, said, “It means a lot to me. (Singer) conducted himself with dignity and respect. He was a really great man. The industrial arts program meant a lot to him.”
