Canon-McMillan Principal Awarded Settlement
Agreement settles two-year dispute with school district.

At a special Canon-McMillan School Board meeting Monday night, the board adopted a resolution to approve a settlement agreement and release of claims from an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charge and civil action regarding a two-year legal issue with high school principal David Helinski.
, the details of this case are vague, but stem from an administrative investigation two years ago.
The fully executed settlement agreement is pending final review of attorney Susan Roberts and release from Helinski, according to the resolution read last night. However, the Observer Reporter is reporting this morning that as part of the agreement, Helinski will receive an adjustment in salary, have sick days credited to him and receive about a $50,000 monetary settlement that will cover his attorney’s fees and damages.

The vote passed unanimously, with school board member Maureen Helinski, wife of David Helinski, abstaining. The exact nature of Helinski's grievances against the district remain sketchy, but Solicitor Michael Lucas said they centered on age and gender issues, according to the Observer Reporter.
