Canonsburg Man Charged in Burglary of the Tiny Store

Canonsburg police said the man had to be subdued with a Taser after he refused to drop a knife.

A man was jailed Saturday night after said he burglarized the Tiny Store downtown.

Witnesses called police after they saw Christopher E. Brown, 46, of Hutchinson Avenue, allegedly break a door using a bar and a knife, according to a report.

Police said that when they arrived at the 314 W. Pike Street store, they encountered Brown in a nearby parking lot wielding a knife.

A Taser was deployed after Brown ignored three commands from officers to drop the knife, a police report indicated.

"Brown fell to the ground and started rolling through the parking lot into West Pike Street," the report stated. "All traffic was stopped immediately until we were able to secure Brown and place him in the back of the patrol vehicle."

Canonsburg police charged Brown with burglary, resisting arrest, theft by unlawful taking, criminal trespass and other offenses.

Police said they discovered eight packs of cigarettes, which officers believe Brown had taken from the store.

Brown was arraigned before district Judge Gary Havelka and remanded to the Washington County Jail on $5,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 5 before district .
