Cecil Woman Will Stand Trial for Insurance Fraud

Heidi Schmidt waived a felony count of insurance fraud to Washington County Court on Wednesday.

A woman will stand trial on a felony count of insurance fraud and misdemeanor count of intent to defraud an insurance company, court records show.

Heidi Schmidt, 42, was charged by the state Attorney General's Office Dec. 27 and waived her right to a preliminary hearing before district Judge Valarie Costanzo on Wednesday.

Online court dockets show she was released from custody on $10,000 unsecured bond.

The Observer-Reporter in Washington reports that Schmidt was charged for "obtaining insurance for her daughter’s car an hour after a crash happened on Christmas 2010 and then telling her daughter to lie about the time it occurred."
