CM Teachers Agree to Wage Freeze; Furloughs Averted
Board President Debbie Link said the elementary music program will be reinstated as a result of the agreement.

Furloughs and the elimination of the elementary band program have been averted because Canon-McMillan’s teacher’s union on Thursday agreed to a wage freeze, board President Debbie Link confirmed today.
The music program was part of more than $2 million worth of cuts the board initially made to balance its 2011-12 spending plan.
Another school director said the union not only agreed to the wage freeze, but also to a “substantial increase” in healthcare contributions—all of which means a net savings of about $900,000.

Link said the district and teacher’s union will make a statement at the board’s meeting Monday night.
Until then, a complete copy of the proposed budget can be viewed on the district's website, and a list of the proposed cuts is attached.
