CMSD Settles Federal Suit
Former teacher Karen E. Gavazzi will receive a settlement of $10,000—plus insurance benefits.

The has settled a federal lawsuit with one of its former teachers.
Karen E. Gavazzi had filed a federal lawsuit in April 2010, claiming the district had violated her civil rights, the Americans With Disabilites Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
While details of the suit, as well as a complaint filed with the Equal Opportunity Commission, were not immediately available, the settlement agreement approved by school directors last week called for a $10,000 settlement.

The agreement also called for Gavazzi to receive insurance benefits from the district beginning July 1 though Dec. 31, 2018, when she turns 65.
Canon-McMillan Patch received a copy of the settlement agreement and general release after filing a Right to Know request with the district.

The district released the document Thursday.
