Election Guide: Five Candidates Seek Two Supervisor Seats in North Strabane
This year an Independent, Neil Kelly, is vying for a shot at a supervisor seat.

Neil Kelly, a resident who is a regular at meetings, will join two Democrats and two Republicans on the ballot Tuesday for a shot at a supervisor seat.
Kelly is running as an Independent. The Washington County Elections Office said his party name was Kelly For Supervisor.
He joins Democrats William Brooks and Brian Spicer, and Republicans James Pierce and Sonia Stopperich on the ballot Tuesday for a six-year term.

The ballot calls for voters to choose not more than two of the candidates.
Brooks is seeking another shot at the office, saying he would love to be there when the "$8 million jewel"—Municipal Park—is finally unveiled to the public.

The retired General Electric employee said that if re-elected he would also work to make further improvements to the public safety in the township with the completion of the substation on Johnson Road. Spicer previously served as a supervisor for 18 years before losing in the last election.
Spicer, who had a tenure of 18 years as a supervisors, and also served with the fire department for 30 years, has said he’s running again in an effort to provide a community service to the residents.
“We’ve come a long way in providing services to residents and haven’t had a tax increase in more than 20 years,” he has said. “I’d even like to look at reducing taxes.”
Stopperich, a member of the state Republican committee, has said she’s running for the first time to “keep the township moving forward.”
“North Strabane has a lot going for it with the new park, low taxes and casino revenue,” she has said. “I’m a fiscal conservative and will do what I can to lower taxes and cut spending in the township,” she said.
Voters can be sure, Stopperich has said, that she’ll be an active supervisor.
Pierce could not immediately be reached for comment.
