Dennis Berty was taken to Allegheny General Hospital Thursday morning after falling about 10 feet from a ladder.
Fire Captain Ed Povirk said Berty had been treated and released from the hospital and was in good spirits hours after the accident, which happened Thursday morning while the department was responding to a one-vehicle crash in the 2100 block of state Route 980.

A vehicle crashed into a telephone pole there and sheared it.
"We were trying to clear a piece of the tree so the road could be opened and Denny was on the ladder," Povirk said.

Southbridge Ambulance was already at the scene for the motorist involved in the accident, who had reportedly refused treatment. It instead transported Berty to AGH in Pittsburgh, where Povirk said he complained of some pain in his left side.
