Former County Commissioner Appointed to Canonsburg Council

John Bevec, who also had previously served on council, was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Michael Kazmarski.

Canonsburg Council on Monday night voted to appoint John Bevec to fill the remainder of the term vacated by Michael Kazmarski.

The motion was passed by a vote of 7-1-1. Councilman Paul Sharkady cast the only dissenting vote and Kazmarski abstained. Neither councilman stated reasons for their respective votes.

Bevec is vice president of Business Development at Community Networks LLC, and was a former borough councilman and Washington County Commissioner.

"I was asked to do it and accepted," Bevec said after the meeting. "I have no intention of running again."

There are two years left of Kazmarski's term.

Kazmarski announced his resignation last week, and cited personal reasons. Council formally accepted the resignation moments before voting Bevec in—with the motion passing by a vote of 7-1-1. Councilman George Coleman cast the only dissenting vote, and Kazmarski abstained. Neither councilman stated their reasons for their respective votes.

Both Kazmarski's resignation and Bevec's appointment are effective June 1.
