Hall of Honor Nominations Still Accepted

But beware: The deadline is Wednesday.

If even one student walks through the atrium, appraises the plaques from its Hall of Honor and aspires to something more, Principal David Helinski said it's all worth it.

"You see war heroes, you se accomplished artists, you see some of the best teachers who ever taught here," he said. "It maybe triggers something."

But beware: Nominations for the annual induction is Wednesday.

Helinski said Canon-McMillan's Hall of Honor lauds "anyone who has every done anything for the district"—and has a wide range of alumni and community members.

Nominations, he said, are based on achievements in academia, athletics, arts, citizenry and valor.

The first class, which was composed of five members, was inducted in 2007, with five more added in 2008 and 2009, and six more last year.

Nominations, Helinksi said, stay active for two years—and the committee overseeing the Hall of Honor still has 10 from last year. So far, two more nominations have been received and added to the field of candidates for induction.

Members of the Hall of Honor vote to see which candidates will be included, and Helinksi said they will be unveiled at the Sept. 23 home football game.

A formal banquet will be held in the spring, he added.
