New Parking Garage Needs Approval in North Strabane

A representative of The Meadows Racetrack & Casino told the board Tuesday about a new garage and multi-purpose room being constructed at the facility.

North Strabane Supervisors are poised to approve a site plan for a parking garage and multi-purpose room proposed by The Meadows Racetrack & Casino Tuesday.

An architect for the North Strabane venue gave a presentation to the board at its meeting, indicating that it would be building a three-level parking garage that will add 935 spaces to what is already available there.

The garage, he said, will be composed of precast concrete and the bottom floor would be an asphalt lot.

The upper level, he said, would be connected to the existing casino structure with a “series of stairs.”

Three new elevators will also be installed, the representative indicated.

Along with the new garage will be a new multi-purpose room that he told supervisors could be used for meetings, banquets, entertainment or weddings.

The 24,600 square-foot facility will have a series of movable walls to allow for flexibility in the space—which can accommodate 600 people when used “banquet style” and 1,000 when using theater seating.

Supervisors and manager Frank Siffrinn voiced concern over the construction vehicles that will be accessing the site through the Racetrack Road entrance, and suggested the company look at utilizing an entrance off Johnson Road.

While the new parking garage is being constructed, The Meadows will offer alternative parking—about 400 spaces—north of the existing garage.

North Strabane supervisors meet next at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the municipal building.
