North Strabane: Park Project Back on Schedule; Change Orders Considered

The township discussed several issues related to its $8 million municipal park project Tuesday.

North Strabane supervisors on Tuesday were presented with a list of proposed changes for the ongoing municipal park project.

Carolyn Yagel, a consultant with Environmental Planning and Design, presented the board with numerous changes to the $8 million project. Among the items listed were improvements to six dugouts, moving the backstops and constructing two press boxes.

Other proposed changes include adjusting flagpoles and the planned lighting. No figures have come in yet regarding the lighting changes, but officials said the total figure for the changes being considered is approximately $87,000.

Other items that were discussed—but not being considered—include a press box at the multi-purpose field at a cost of $72,000 and bleachers along the entire slope overseeing the multi-purpose field, which is about 100 yards long. That alone would cost almost $500,000.

According to Joe Sites, township engineer, work on the park is back on schedule despite delays due to inclement weather.

The board will be presented with a formal change order with updated figures at next Tuesday's meeting.

In other business, North Strabane Fire Chief Mark Grimm announced that the township's newest fire engine has arrived and that the public is invited to come and see it. The engine was designed by both volunteer and career members of the department.

Township Manager Frank Siffrinn also informed the board that it should expect to be presented with a candidate for a part-time police officer position.

The next meeting of the board is 7 p.m. Tuesday in the township building.
