Officer Dryer Honored by State House
The East Washington Borough police officer was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 19, 2011.

On Tuesday, the state House unanimously approved legislation introduced by (D-) honoring the life of East Washington Borough police Officer John David Dryer, who was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 19, 2011.
House Resolution 578 recognizes the sacrifices and accomplishments of Dryer throughout his career as a police officer.
"Officer Dryer was an extraordinary man who went above and beyond his commitment to serve and protect his fellow citizens," Neuman said. "Sometimes there just are no words to make sense of a tragedy that took a good man from us far too soon. My sympathy goes out to his family and to Officer Dryer’s colleagues on the police force.

"I hope his loss serves as a powerful reminder of the respect and admiration our law enforcement is due, and that each day, they put their lives on the line to protect us," Neuman said.
Neuman introduced Officer Dryer's family on the House floor during the resolution's adoption. Dryer is survived by his son, Benjamin; his parents JoAnn and John; his brother, Donald; and his sister, Elizabeth.

Last December, Dryer observed a vehicle in East Washington Borough and initiated a routine traffic stop on the highway; another officer arrived to assist him. Unfortunately, a confrontation occurred and the driver shot both Dryer and the other officer. Dryer died as a result of the assault.
Dryer also served as a police officer for Donegal Township and Midway Borough.
In addition to his accomplishments in law enforcement, Dryer successfully owned and operated the Chestnut Veterinary Clinic in Washington County and was previously employed as an equine veterinarian throughout North America.
Neuman also is sponsoring legislation H.B. 2215, which would designate the interchange at the intersection of Route 136 and Interstate 70 in Washington County as the Officer John David Dryer Memorial Interchange. That bill is expected to be passed later this week.
