Shred Some Pounds (of Paper)

State Sen. Tim Solobay and Canonsburg will offer residents free document shredding.

As income tax season reminds residents how many sensitive personal documents they have stored at home, state and borough are teaming up with a local business to help get rid of the backlog.

DocSolutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Community Action Southwest, will provide free document shredding in the borough parking lot at 68 E. Pike St., Canonsburg, on April 20.

“Keeping unnecessary piles of records with personal information is inviting trouble,” Solobay said. “Throwing these documents into the trash could put them in the wrong hands. It’s best to shred personal records when they’re no longer needed.”

Residents can bring their unneeded papers from 9 a.m. until noon. The event is for individuals only, and not businesses.

"I am happy to happy to have been able to work with Senator Solobay and Doc Solutions to provide this valuable community service for our residents,” said Canonsburg Mayor David H. Rhome. “Their on-site document destruction service is secure and convenient and we encourage individuals to mark this date on their calendars."

DocSolutions is a respected Washington County service provider in records management, including document destruction.

"We get lots of calls from individuals who have sensitive information they need to dispose of, but they find out that it takes a long time on a small office shredder,” said Amy S. Doria, the company’s director of operations. “A community day is a perfect way to spread the word that households can take advantage of our services."
