Spotlight: Canon-McMillan Teachers, Students Raise Money for American Cancer Society
See who else is being recognized by the Canon-McMillan School Board and administration this month!

The Canon-McMillan School Board and the district's administration are giving a shout out to these students and faculty members for their recent accomplishments.
The following are being recognized by the board this month:
- Canonsburg Middle School and Canon-McMillan High School students, teachers and staff raised $2,525 for the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer Program. Adam Manion, Vince Faith, Tony Dominick, Rick Bell, Lead CM, and CMS Student Council were integral in the planning of the events that raised the money.
- Congratulations to Brian Herrig, Canonsburg Middle School technology education teacher, for writing a chapter in the newly released book, “Cases on Digital Game-Based Learning: Methods, Models, and Strategies.” Herrig’s chapter titled, “Get Your Head in the Game: Digital Game-Based Learning with Game Maker” focuses on the development and implementation of an introductory programming unit within a seventh-grade technology education course.
- During Spirit Week, Feb. 25 through March 1, Cecil Elementary School raised $2,652.47 for two local charities: Cecil American Legion and Orphan's Tear. The checks will be presented to the two organizations on today, March 12.
- South Central Elementary teachers Kathy Durko, third grade, and Melissa Nelson, fourth grade, won a $3,000 grant from the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh to run a School Science Olympiad later this year at the school. The purpose of the grant is to excite, inspire, challenge, and foster the fun side of science for elementary students of all abilities. The Society provides information, manuals, and training for teachers to promote Science Olympiad programs in their schools or districts.
