Team North Strabane Needs You!
The North Strabane Parks and Recreation Department is forming a team for the upcoming Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Here's how you can get involved.

Causes hit closer to home when they affect someone personally—and Supervisor Sonia Stopperich is no different.
In 2010, she had a lumpectomy, which prompted her to get involved with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
So last year, she formed a small team through her business, Rita’s in McMurray, and participated in the walk in Pittsburgh.

“It’s a very moving experience,” she said. “It’s a sea of pink.”
It was only after she got home and noticed at least two other women in her neighborhood sporting their Susan G. Komen T-shirts that she decided to bring the cause even closer to home.

She and Jill Motzer—wife of supervisors chairman Steve Motzer—have decided to co-chair a Susan G. Komen team for township residents.
“This is an exciting event and we are honored to be a part of it,” a letter to township employees, friends and family stated. “We are happy to be able to provide some organization and assistance to our residents who already participate in this event, as well as introduce it to new participants this year.”
The event, sponsored by the township’s Parks and Recreation Department, will include bus transportation from North Strabane to the Pittsburgh race.
The race will be held on Mother’s Day—Sunday, May 13—at 8 a.m.
Stopperich said participants should be home by noon.
“It doesn’t take up your whole day,” she said, adding: “Some people use it as a Mother’s Day event.”
