Township Approves Agreement with YMCA

YMCA officials have said a new facility could come to North Strabane by 2015.

supervisors on Tuesday approved a nonbinding agreement with the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh—one that township Manager Frank Siffrinn said gives the organization the go-ahead to begin securing funds for the project.

The board approved the agreement by a vote of 4-0. Supervisor Brian Spicer was absent.

A representative from the YMCA told the board last week it was contemplating the construction of a $12 million to $14 million facility that would include a swimming pool, basketball courts and locker rooms.

The building would be incorporated into the municipal park, Parks and Recreation Director Greg Sulc has said.

Officials from the organization had also told supervisors they need to secure funding for the project—and that 60 percent needs to be acquired before construction could begin on the facility.
