UPDATE: Muse Bridge Needs to be Demolished; Rebuilt

No word yet on when the bridge could reopen.

Cecil Township's engineer told supervisors on Monday that the Oak Street Bridge would need to be demolished and rebuilt.

The township's public works crew in the afternoon after it partially collapsed—when myriad residents began pulling into the nearby volunteer fire department parking lot to take a gander at the sink hole.

Cecil Manager Don Gennuso said township officials would meet with a structural engineer this week to determine a course of action. He said several issues need to be ironed out—not the least of which is a Columbia Gas line that runs beneath the bridge's super structure.

Supervisors asked that Gennuso expediate the work, if possible.

"Let's face it, we need to get this taken care of now," board Chairman Mike Debbis told him. "Let's make sure (this) keeps moving forward."

No cost estimate was offered for the project at the board's regular monthly meeting Monday. A timeline for the bridge replacement also was not clear.

However, Gennuso indicated that all permits needed for the proposed work have already been issued because the bridge had been scheduled to be replaced.
