Scott Township Race Hinges on Write-in Votes

Eileen Meyers wins Democratic nomination, but Republican write-ins could put Pat Martin on ballot

Scott Township Commissioner Eileen Meyers cruised to the Democratic nomination Tuesday night, but her challenger is optimistic she received enough write-in votes on the Republican side for a November re-match.

Unofficial results for indicate that incumbent Meyers received 68.5% of the votes. Meyers was at the Scott Township Democratic Committee Headquarters tonight with people who worked on the Democratic Committee and poll workers.

“It’s wonderful and shows that my constituents believe in what I am doing,” she said.

With small precincts in this ward, a few votes can make the difference, and that’s what challenger Pat Martin is pinning her hopes on. According to the Allegheny County elections website, there were 24 write-ins on the republican ticket, plus absentee ballots that still have to be verified.

“I asked the Republicans for their endorsement, and I am hoping to have enough write-ins to get on the ballot for November,” Martin said.

If so, she will face Meyers again in a race for the seat on the Scott Township Board of Commissioners. Martin visited the polling places Tuesday and talked to many constituents in her area.

“A lot of people were upset because they would like to see more happening in Glendale,” she said.

Along with her family and a few close friends, Meyers did all of the campaigning herself.

“I’m glad it’s over. It was a lot of work,” Meyers said. “I can now continue on with the Carothers Avenue (Tri-Community) revitalization project.”
