81 Year Old Assaulted, Robbed In Mt Airy Area

The 81-year-old victim was punched in the face and has her bag stolen on March 20, according to Philadelphia Police.

An 81-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed in the Mt. Airy area in March, according to Philadelphia Police. Authorities are asking for the public's assistance identifying the suspect in the crime that occurred last month.

Police said the male suspect attempted to steal the victim's bag at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday, March 20 on the 8400 block of Thouron Avenue after she left the "H" SEPTA bus and the suspect pulled up in a dark sedan.

The suspect was unable to steal the bag when the victim fought back, causing the suspect to flee toward the vehicle, police said.

However, a male in the vehicle yelled to the suspect, telling him to get the victim's bag and to hit the victim in the head, police said.

The suspect ran back to the victim, punched her in the face causing her to fall to the ground, stole the bag, got into the vehicle, and fled north on Thouron Avenue police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the incident, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid 20s with a medium build, medium brown complexion, light beard, wearing a gray knit cap, dark jacket with a fur lined hood, and faded jeans, police said.

Police said the public should not approach the suspect and should call 911 immediately if he is spotted.
