Cathedral Village Announces New Options, Planned Improvements

Following Affiliation with Presbyterian Senior Living, Cathedral Village Introduces New Options to the Area, Enhancements for Residents

PHILADELPHIA – Following Cathedral Village’s affiliation with Presbyterian Senior Living, the health care, housing and supportive services provider announces a series of operational and physical improvements to offer more flexibility, new contracts and pricing alternatives, and an enhanced community life for residents.

“We are excited to begin seeing the results of the in-depth evaluation and planning that our staff, residents and Presbyterian Senior Living have undertaken over the past few months,” said Dennis Koza, Cathedral Village executive director.

New options for residents are set to rollout this year including additional contract and pricing alternatives – options that are not typically offered in the area. Physical improvements are also scheduled, such as upgraded health center technology, new design features in the apartments, and exterior building improvements.

·Replacement of roofs and heating and cooling units in Cathedral Hall, which is used for a multitude of resident and staff events and activities.

·Ongoing work with residents through generous donations to a capital campaign to complete the remaining improvements to the lobby, stage, lighting and bathrooms within Cathedral Hall.

·Implementation of Answers on Demand integrated software to provide the Health Center staff with real-time clinical, financial and operational information. This includes Point of Care, a computerized resident information system which enables licensed nursing staff as well as nursing assistants to easily access resident care needs and assignment information. This will enable them to complete documentation at the time the observation and care occur so they can “chart as they go.”

·Implementation of an on-line maintenance management system to increase maintenance efficiencies.

·Development of master plan for exterior building improvements and apartment walkways.

·Installation of an electric co-generation system.

·Development of new standard and upgrade options for apartments with complementary support from onsite Design Specialist.

·Completion of phase one of parking and paving improvements.

A van and two new buses have already been provided for convenient, comfortable transportation to Center City, the Kimmel Center, local shopping centers and other community attractions.

Cathedral Village sales director, Linda Pancio, will host a series of informational sessions in October to provide details on the new Type A – Care Inclusive Contract and the two new Type B – Residency Agreements.

Transition Planning

During the transition planning process, leadership outlined several overall objectives: to build trust, facilitate cooperation and communication, to understand operating processes and expectations, and develop a transition plan that would be effectively implemented. The transition team included Presbyterian Senior Living executives directed by Jim Bernardo, Chief Operating Officer and staff of Cathedral Village, led by Executive Director, Dennis Koza.

“We’re just getting started,” said Jim Bernardo, COO of Presbyterian Senior Living. “And we’re eager to continue the outstanding service provided by Cathedral Village as we move ahead with plans to apply resources where needed. Residents and staff are amazing and life is good at Cathedral Village.”

Prior to developing this plan, the teams first identified the exceptional aspects of living at Cathedral Village. The continuing care retirement community is best known for diversity and fostering a culture of life-long learning, creative and performing arts, and fitness. Many residents sit on the Board of Directors for leading businesses, hospitals, and civic organizations as well as remain active in their professional careers. Several also continue to create and publish literary works. Supporting an active and engaged resident population – both on and off campus – was of the foremost consideration in planning for the evolution of the community.

“Being part of an experienced, financially secure network is enabling us to move into the future with the exceptional service for which Cathedral Village is known. We are thrilled about the broad range of improvements that have already been initiated as well as those scheduled to begin this year,” said Pancio.

Earlier this year, Presbyterian Senior Living and Cathedral Village announced their affiliation. The agreement combined two of Pennsylvania’s leading providers of health care, housing and related services for seniors. Cathedral Village is now a subsidiary corporation of Dillsburg, Pa.-based Presbyterian Senior Living. The non-profit organization is no stranger to the affiliation process as Presbyterian Senior Living has grown from one location in 1927 to now serving more than 6,000 seniors in 29 locations in the mid-Atlantic region.
