Charter School Expansion On Track

According to comments from MAUSA, construction on a new charter school facility could begin in June.

Things appear to be going will in the planned expansion of the Wissahickon Charter School.

Anuj Gupta, the executive director of Mt. Airy USA, presented an update about the proposed expansion at the Chew and Belfied Neighbor's Club on Jan 30, telling the civic group that project to bring a school to Washington Lane was on track.

"We're very excited about how this is unfolding so far," he said. "This is a big milestone for us."

According to Gupta, the city zoning board approved of the plan to build at K-through-eighth grade school, granting an exception to build on land that is zoned as "industrial" at Chew and Washington.

With the zoning permits in place, Gupta said that the school can now close on funding the project. Construction on the project is expected to begin in June 2013.
