Chestnut Hill Businesses Targeted By 'Abduction' Scammers: Report

CHESTNUT HILL, PHILADELPHIA – Police in the Chestnut Hill area are warning businesses and residents of a scam where callers demand money for the return of an "abducted" loved one.

Police said the scammers call up businesses in the area and say a loved one has been abducted or will be abducted unless the target pays up, Chestnut Hill local reports.

Scammers are likely getting phone numbers and names of relatives from website and social media, the outlet reports.

Should you get a scam call of this type, police recommend you hang up, check o the loved one in question, and contact police at (215) 686-3140.
