Churchville Withdraws from Eighth District Council Race

John Elliott Churchville, who had  for the Eighth District Council seat that will be , announced his withdrawal from the race in an email to his supporters on March 1. Churchville is CEO of the Liberation Fellowship Community Development Corporation in Germantown, and also heads the Greater Germantown Business Association.

Churchville cited family commitments as a reason for his withdrawal from the race. In addition, he said he felt compelled to work directly with neighborhood youth and AIDS victims. He feared a political campaign would make it difficult to do that.

"I cannot run a campaign that lifts up the issues of the last, least and lost among us while slacking off of the important HIV/AIDS, environmental and sustainable business development work that will directly benefit them," he wrote in the announcement.

Churchville's announcement comes just a week before the March 8 deadline for candidates to file nomination petitions.
