Double Homicide In Mt. Airy Sunday: Police

Two people were found dead in a parked vehicle in East Mt. Airy this weekend, Philadelphia Police said.

MT AIRY, PHILADELPHIA – Two people were found dead in a parked vehicle in East Mt. Airy over the weekend, according to Philadelphia Police.

On Sunday, June 4, police responded to the 1000 block of Sydney Street at about 4:46 p.m., police said.

Police arrived and found a male in the drivers seat and a female in the passenger seat, both suffering gunshot wounds to the head, police said.

Police identified the male as 33-year-old Frederick Hawkins of Elkins Park and the female as 21-year-old Amber Sloan of Philadelphia. Both were pronounced dead at 5 p.m., police said.

Police said no arrests have been made and a motive has not been determined. The Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.

"It does appear that the shooting happened inside the car, it appears the shooter was in the backseat, shot the male, then shot the female, then got out and fled from this location," Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark told 6ABC

The outlet reports both were shot in the back of the head, and detectives say it's likely the victims knew their killers.

Philly.com reports Hawkins had latex gloves on when he was found but police did not comment on whether or not drugs or paraphernalia were found in the vehicle.
