Evensong at 7:00 p.m; Dinner and lecture at 8:00 p.m.
Sam Wells became Vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London, in July 2012. For seven years before that Sam served as the Dean of the Chapel at Duke University and taught as a Research Professor of Christian Ethics at Duke Divinity School. Sam is a colleague and friend of Professor Stanley Hauerwas who is a leading light in a form of Christian Ethics that place community and virtue at the center of our ethical formation. Prior to Duke Sam ministered for 11 years in urban priority areas in England. He continues to focus on the Christian response to poverty and injustice in his preaching and writing.
Sam has written 17 books, including works on ethics such as Improvisation and God’s Companions, more general works such as Introducing Christian Ethics, collections of sermons including Speaking the Truth and Be Not Afraid, and devotional works such as Power and Passion, which was the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent book for 2007.
