Foster, Bass File Challenges in 8th District Race

The deadline for filing challenges was Monday, Aug. 8.

More challenges have been filed in the 8th District City Council race. Monday was the deadline to challenge nomination petitions, and according to the County Board of Elections, all three candidates have made use of the practice.

, running independently under the Green Party values, had Friday against , the publisher of Germantown Newspapers running as an Independent.

The Board of Elections added more challenges to the list as the deadline approached and Foster decided to file his own challenge against Rudnick.

On Monday, Foster commented on something Rudnick said in a Newsworks article calling Foster “a little older and a little wider.”

 “A wise guy like that doesn’t really need to be responded to,” Foster said. “But they behave like this and think I’m the one who should be out of the race.”

Democratic nominee for the 8th District seat, , also got in on the challenge action yesterday. She also filed a challenge against Jim Foster.

“Reports of Foster’s eleventh-hour attempt at getting on the ballot raised questions as to the veracity of his papers,” the Bass campaign said in a statement, citing “defects” in Foster’s petitions.

Hearing dates on the challenges have not been set.
