Funeral Arrangements Set For Fallen Philadelphia Firefighter

Lt. Benny Hutchins served the Philadelphia Fire Department for 34 years died after being hurt during training exercises on June 25.

PHILADELPHIA – Funeral arrangements have been made for the longtime Philadelphia Fire Department member who died after being injured during training exercises in late June.

Public viewings and the funeral for Lt. Benny Hutchins will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, the fire department said.

Hutchins, a 34-year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department, died June 27 after experiencing a medical emergency during training at the Fire Academy in Holmesburg on June 25.

Viewings will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 2001 W. Lehigh Ave., Philadelphia.

A funeral procession will leave from Engine 45 at 26th and York streets at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 11. The procession will go north on 26th Street and then east on Lehigh Avenue.

The procession will arrive at the Deliverance Evangelistic Church at about 7:35 a.m.

Then from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the church will host a viewing.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Interment will follow the service. A motorcade will leave the church and head east on Lehigh Avenue to Interstate 95 and the burial site at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, Pa. 18940.
