Jim Foster's 'Eleventh Hour' Run for the 8th District
The publisher of Germantown Newspapers decided only six days before the deadline to file nomination petitions.

Jim Foster decided only six days before the for the City Council . The publisher of Germantown Newspapers ran in 2007, and wasn’t planning to run again, but he was concerned, he said, about the lack of options in the race.
“What really motivated me to do this eleventh-hour Hail Mary pass- I mean, I only got my petitions six days before deadline- it was encouragement from the community from people were disgusted by several things,” Foster said.
He cited lack of communication from the current councilwoman, Donna Reed Miller. He said community members he talked to had been unable to contact Cindy Bass, the , and were worried she would be similar to the preceding administration.

“People were looking forward to someone using a different playbook, with a different approach,” Foster said.
Foster is a lifelong Independent, and is running as an Independent for the council seat. Even as he got into the race less than a week before the deadline to file nomination petitions, he was able in six short days to get 875 signatures, well over the minimum of 750.
