Man Murdered While Sitting In Car In Northeast Philly: Police

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia Police are investigating the murder of a New Jersey Realtor who was shot in the head while sitting inside his vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia recently.

According to police, Orlando Martinez, 54, of Westville, New Jersey, died after police found him suffering from a gunshot wound to his head Wednesday morning.

Martinez was found in his Honda Accord, which was parked on the 4500 block of Oakmont Street, at about 11:04 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 by a passerby.

Authorities arrived on scene and found the vehicle locked, which led responders to break out one of the windows to pull Martinez out, police said.

Police said he was suffering from a single 9mm gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m.

The vehicle was parked near a home that was for sale, and police said Martinez was scheduled to show the home at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

According to police, Martinez's family reported him missing Tuesday after he didn't return home.

Police said they believe Martinez knew his killer, who was likely in the car when Martinez was shot, but do not have a motive yet as Martinez was not robbed.

Martinez was not known to Philadelphia Police and has no prior criminal record.

Police ask anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them.
