Man Shoots Teen Carjacker In West Mt Airy: Reports

A 16-year-old is in critical condition after being shot multiple times by a 60-year-old man he targeted in a carjacking Thursday night.

WEST MT. AIRY, PHILADELPHIA — A ma shot a teenager during an attempted carjacking in West Mt. Airy Thursday night, according to reports.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on the 6500 block of Cherokee Street in West Mount Airy, Action News reports.

According to Fox 29, a 60-year-old man was getting out of his vehicle when two people came up to him, one pointing a gun at his face, and demanded his keys.

That's when the man pulled out his own gun and started firing at the carjackers.

In total, 17 shots were fired between the two, and the 16-year-old was shot multiple times before driving off in a Jeep that police said was stolen in a separate carjacking. The man was not hit, NBC10 reports.

Police took the teen into custody on the 6700 block of Germantown Avenue and took him to Einstein Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.
