Man Killed In Tuesday Mt. Airy Shooting: Police

Police said the 23-year-old man was shot in the head when a car pulled up beside a vehicle he was riding in.

MT AIRY, PHILADELPHIA – A man has died after being shot in the head Tuesday in the Mt. Airy area, according to Philadelphia Police.

Zafir Abdur-Rahman, 23, died Wednesday, Aug. 2 after a shooting that occurred on the 7700 block of Williams Avenue the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Police said at about 7:39 p.m. police saw a blue jeep Cherokee traveling towards Albert Einstein Medical Center at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle then stopped in front of the main hospital entrance and the officers determined that two shooting victims were inside, police said.

The victims were taken into the emergency room and later admitted into surgery and intensive care unit, respectively.

Abdur-Rahman was shot in the right side of his head and the other victim was shot in the right arm and torso, police said.

Abdur-Rahman was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m. Aug. 2, police said.

Police learned that the shooting had occurred at Upsal Street and Williams Avenue when a white compact sedan pulled up alongside the victims and began shooting.

Police said they have not determined a motive and have made no arrests.
