Philly beat out tough towns, climbing to the summit of sullen to be named the most downright ill-tempered place in America.

"Has there ever been a more ironic nickname for a city than Philly’s Brotherly Love moniker? Or perhaps that is fitting, as brothers tend to show their love by beating the s**t out of each other repeatedly," reporters Kevin Alexander and Matt Lynch write in the piece, published Tuesday.

Citing our — we'll call it "passionate" over angry — sports culture, Thrillist draws attention to some recent incidents at athletic events that have shed some not-so-pretty light on the City of Brotherly Love.

But our anger "goes well beyond boorish fandom," Thrillist believes.

Some of the elements are similar to Boston -- the insecurity when comparing themselves to NY that manifests itself as over-the-top bravado; the penchant for street festivals devolving into public urine and vomit competitions; an accent that sounds like someone threw a chainsaw into a trash fire filled with gravel, etc.

But Philly is its own unique beast

Other cities ranked among the 11 most angry in the United States include: Cleveland (2); Boston (3); Chicago (6); and New York City (7).
