This class is about working with alternative texts, like poems and popular stories to present them in a theatrical way while still conveying the prime message or intent of the original text. We will start by working with readings, using different voices and characterizations. Using several poems by Shel Silverstein. Then Students will work on blocking, division of text and characterizations for presentation in a showcase at the end of the 8 week class session. Theater Sports and Improv- Mondays 6pm-7pm
Learn the basic structure and “rules” of Improv and Theater Sports. Games like "What are you doing?", "Three Entrances" and "Sound Toss" are just a few of the Games we will explore and play. Then we will move on to more difficult Improv scenes, and complex Theater Sports such as "Why I am late for work" and "The never ending story". Fun and engaging, these Theater Sports encourage creativity, keep children engaged and excited about creative play and performance. They also develop strong acting and performance skills, playing to the strengths of each individual participant. The session will end with a showcase for families and friends, that will include demonstrations of our favorite games, and performances of our best scenes developed through improv.
