Verna Tyner "Sad For the District" After Primary Loss
Tyner came in third in the Democratic Primary race for the 8th District City Council seat.

As music played and supporters cheered, the spirit at Verna Tyner's Election Night event at 5245 Germantown Avenue was optimistic until the end.
At 10 p.m., early results were putting her in third place with about 16 percent of the votes, but Tyner said, "It's early. We're gonna win."
At 10:20 p.m., a cheer erupted from the crowd. Another batch of votes had come in, and bumped Tyner up to second place. In the end, though, the bump wasn't enough. Tyner fell back to third place. With 97 percent of the votes reported, Tyner trailed the victor, Cindy Bass, and the runner-up, Greg Paulmier, receiving 18.5 percent of the votes.

"I feel sad for the district. I can tell you that it is not going to be represented the way I would have represented it," Tyner said. "But we did a great job, and I am proud and happy for everyone who supported me.
As for plans to run in the future, Tyner said, "I don't know. I didn't plan to run this time, so you never know. I'm just planning to continue this journey of 40 years working to serve the community."
