Woman, 7-month-Old Great-Grandson Die In West Mt Airy Fire

WEST MT. AIRY, PHILADELPHIA — A 70-year-old woman and her 7-month-old great-grandson died in a house fire that broke out Saturday evening in West Mount Airy, according to fire officials and reports.
The fire broke out at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at a home on the 300 block of W. Mount Airy Avenue, Action News reports.
In the home when the fire broke out were Elaine Morris, 70, her 33-year-old granddaughter, and her three great-grandsons, ages 8, 7 and 7-months, according to NBC10.

Authorities said the granddaughter and the 8- and 7-year-old children escaped with minor injuries.
However, the 7-month-old was taken from the home but pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Hospital, Fox 29 reports. Morris was found unresponsive inside a bathroom and was pronounced dead on the scene.

"Despite the full effort given by our firefighters, rescue, and EMS responders, last night was tragic in Mount Airy," the Philadelphia Fire Department said following the fire. "Our condolences to the family of the deceased and injured. Our hearts are with the community during this time."
