Wrench-Wielding Men Rob Germantown Store, Assault Employee

PHILADELPHIA – An employee at a Germantown area store was assaulted by wrench-wielding robbers Wednesday, according to Philadelphia Police.

At about 2:18 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, two men came into the Star One Wireless store located at 5916 Germantown Ave.

The men jumped over the counter and one of the men who was armed with a wrench began to assault an employee while the other man demanded another employee open the cash register and give up cell phones, police said.

The employee who was assaulted managed to make it out of the store for help, police said.

Both men then fled the store on foot and were last seen heading south on Germantown Avenue then west on Rittenhouse Street.

The assaulted employee was taken to a hospital.

Taken were several phones valued at $400.

The suspects are both described as black man 18 to 25 years old, standing 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall with thin builds.

The one who assaulted the worker was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, faded gray pants, yellow and black sneakers, a dark "Jan Sport" brand back pack, and a dark mask partially covering face.

Police said the other suspect was wearing an army green and gray hooded jacket, light gray pants, blue and white sneakers, and a dark mask.
