Saji Chair

Saji Chair by Laura Kishimoto.

The Saji Chair was inspired from geometry. The designer was concerned with the relationship of lines, points, and the relative arrangement of the sitting solution in general.

This sitting solution appears to create near impossible bends, with seamless curves. The organic shapes found in the chair make it appear welcoming and supportive.

The chair is mostly made from bent-laminated wood (in an ash veneer), with a metal (mild steel) framing system.

The solution appears to hold properties of ergonomics. The bent wood seems to allow the user to be in tune with their necessary body movements and sitting posture variations.

The framing gives a nice contrast, in terms of materials used and mass. The sitting part of the solution is large and sturdy in appearance, the frame seems to be much more feminine and sleek in comparison.

This contrast gives not only an interesting and eye catching appearance, but a very contemporary feel as well.

This sitting solution was finished in the fall of 2012.

The designer, Laura Kishimoto, studied Furniture Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

I believe this designer is to bring many great furniture pieces and other products to our world in the future.

Thus far, she has created beautiful, spatially complex pieces through material studies.
