Chances are, at one time or another, a police officer has been there to assist you or a family member in a time of need.
These men and women are the front lines of defense here at home. They never know what they might encounter when they call on duty each shift. Depending on the time of day and where they work, it could be quiet and routine, or it could be utter pandemonium.
The reality is the uncertainty.

Unfortunately, many consider the police a necessary evil. Folks want them there yesterday when they need them, but when they are the focus of an officer's attention because they've broken a law, the police become the bad guys. That's okay. They're used to it. They willingly stepped into the role.
They take the bad with the good because they believe they can make a difference. They believe in upholding the law. They believe that good will ultimately triumph over evil, and they want to be a part of that.
