Burton's Total Pet! Enjoying New, Prominent Location

The store moves to the Viola Plaza on Route 19.

After 15 years in the Cranberry Square shopping center adjacent to , has packed up its supplies and moved about a mile down the road to a new location in the Viola Plaza on Route 19.

“It’s bigger and it’s more visible,” said Sharon Patrick, whose husband, Burton Patrick, owns the chain of local pet stores. “We were kind of hidden where we were before.”

The pet supply store, which has eight locations in the Pittsburgh area, including McCandless Township and Allison Park, moved into its new digs about two weeks ago.

Once Burton’s lease at its former location expired in November, Patrick said they decided to move the store to the larger location on Route 19 because of Burton's growing selection of merchandise. Since opening the store, she said, she has noticed an influx of new customers.

“I had a lady in here this morning who didn’t know we were in this area until she saw us and stopped in today,” she said Friday.

Patrick said the store was under construction for about three months before Burton’s opened near the end of November.

The store’s parrots, known for talking to customers (but only when they feel like it), now are located at the front of the building next to a giant window. A fish display is being set up near the back of the store, Patrick said.

In the future, a do-it-yourself dog wash station also will be added to the store.

“We have them in about half of our other stores,” Patrick said.
