Cranberry To Hold CarFit Check For Older Adults

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — A free CarFit Check is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 6 in the rear parking lot of the municipal center.

CarFit is an educational program created by the American Society on Aging and developed in collaboration with AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them.

The program provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers and/or increase their mobility in the community.

A standard CarFit session takes about 20 minutes in a parking lot. Trained volunteers and occupational therapy professionals review 12 key areas of the driver-to-vehicle fit.

Included are:

Seat Belt Fit: Ensures the belt holds the driver properly and comfortably.

Airbag Distance: Checks for a safe distance (at least 10 inches) between the chest and the steering wheel airbag.

Line of Sight: Confirms the driver can see clearly over the steering wheel and dash.

Mirrors: Adjusts side and rearview mirrors to minimize blind spots.

Controls: Evaluates ease of reaching gas/brake pedals, turning the ignition, and operating other vehicle features

CarFit is an educational review, not a driving test, vehicle inspection, or license evaluation.
