Junior Troop 21525 earns their Bronze Award while being an advocate for the environment

Girl Scouts have been interconnected with the environment and being outdoors since our founding in 1912. Scouts are taught to expand the horizons by expanding your community. For Junior (4-5grade) troop 21525, this relationship with the world we live in became the inspiration for their Bronze Award winning project.
Troop 21525 earned the Bronze Award for their project on 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle'. Troop members Kaylee Roberts, Rachel Rafferty, Zoe Stebbins, Elizabeth Bittner, Rebecca Loeffler, Katie Yanez, Erin Salancy, Sarah Widenhofer, Ellen Casey, Coryn Ferguson, Mia Palermo, Kylin Mannion, and Hannah Vogel demonstrated to their peers and younger scouts the importance of being active participants in keeping the Earth healthy. Lead by scouting volunteers Karen Roberts (leader) and Sharon Widenhofer (leader) the girls worked in many different areas and with several different audiences for many months to earn this award. The troop hosted the Daisy (K-1st grade) Girl Scout 'Use Resources Wisely' Petal Event on Friday April 20, 2012. At this event, 41 Daisies were encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle. They learned about the water cycle and made a bracelet that symbolizes it, made pinecone bird feeders and a strawberry planting, and had an 'earthy' themed snack. One of the highlight's of the event were the presentation of two skits featuring members of Junior Troop 21525 (including the Lorax) encouraging 'green' practices. To finish the event, the Daisies earned the 'Use Resources Wisely' petal and received an Earth Day fun patch in addition to taking home their own recycling kit and reusable bag (generously donated by Cranberry Township).
The Junior troop members also completed the Journey 'Agent of Change - It's Your World Change It', made a recycled tote bag, hosted a Brownie troop this spring and shared with them about the Daisy event in so doing also teaching them about how to 'reduce, reuse, and recycle' too. The girls also all took the Girl Scout Forever Green Pledge together.
Congratulations Girl Scout Troop 21525 on your wonderful achievement. Your efforts have made an impact in the scouting community and our neighborhood!
