Pittsburgh-Area Man Killed His Mother: Police

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA — A West Newton man is accused of beating his mother to death on her porch Sunday morning.

Pennsylvania State Police on Monday charged Jakob Korber, 29, of West Newton, with criminal homicide in the death of Christin Hamilton.

Troopers responded to the home on Hermine West Newton Road after someone living there discovered Hamilton unresponsive on the porch.

According to court documents, the resident said that Korber, who had fled the scene, recently had made death threats to Hamilton and her.

Surveillance camera video from the home captured Korber first arguing with Hamilton before beating her with his hands and objects on the porch.

An hours-long manhunt ensued, with police circulating an image of Korber online and asking for the public's help in locating him. He eventually was apprehended while apparently approaching the home where the crime occurred.

Korber is being housed in the Westmoreland County Prison. He faces a preliminary hearing on Sept. 14.
