Orange Cone Alert: Get Ready for Route 228 Road Construction
Delays are expected tonight and next week.

Travelers on busy Route 228 in Cranberry should allow themselves some extra time this evening and next week.
According to PennDOT, there will be traffic restrictions from 9 tonight until 6 a.m. Friday on Route 228 between the northbound ramps to Interstate 79 and the Cranberry Woods/Crider Road intersection because of a driveway that is being constructed for the Cranberry Crossroads shopping center.
The 98,940-square-feet retail space will include a two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods store as its anchor. ECHO Realty, a Pittsburgh-based real estate and retail development company, is developing the shopping center. Pittsburgh's Elmhurst Group also will develop 90,000 square feet of business and professional office space in the same area.

Advanced warning signs will be in place, and traffic control devices will shift traffic so that the work can be performed.
The construction includes moving the guide rail, saw-cutting pavement for removal of the concrete island, placement of a cross pipe and the removal of a shoulder to allow construction of new lanes.

Next week, the contractor will install a cross pipe across all four lanes of Route 228. Motorists should expect lane closures and intermittent traffic stoppages for the duration of the pipe installation, according to PennDOT.
Closures and traffic stoppages will take place between 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the road work. Construction is expected to last all week.
Drivers should expect delays and congestion during the work times. PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert for changing conditions, minimize distractions and to slow down in work zones.
