CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — Haine Elementary School second-graders made sure area senior citizens received Valentine's Day treats by participating in the annual Valentine's Day Caring and Warmth project. The students collected cozy socks and made valentines to help ensure seniors weren't feeling lonely.

“We collected so many socks and created beautiful valentines for many senior citizens," said Haine second grade teacher Robin Clay, who spearheaded the project.

"The children’s efforts were wonderful and very much appreciated, especially during such a challenging time where many seniors are not able to spend time with family members during this
pandemic. I am sure their act of kindness will be the reason for many seniors to smile this Valentine’s Day.”

Clay this year invited other second grade teachers to have their classes participate. Megan Anderson, Aimee Kaczamarek and Megan Witherell quickly agreed.

The undertaking occurred in collaboration with North Hills Community Outreach, a nonprofit charitable organization that counts Clay among its board of directors.

“I thought I would share this wonderful organization and my involvement with my second grade class as we learn about communities, ways of helping our neighbors in need, as well as embracing their desire to participate in an act of kindness through a sock collection and art project,” Clay said.
