CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe has organized a pro-gun rally that will occur May 6 in the state Capitol rotunda in Harrisburg. Metcalfe is calling the event "Build the Wall of Freedom."

In a flyer publicizing the rally, the Cranberry Republican is touting it as an attempt to stop U.S. House speaker Nancy Peloosi, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto's "attacks on law-abiding gun owners...this is a rally to protect your right to keep and bear arms."

Among those expected to speak at the rally, according to Metcalfe:

  • Tim Schmidt, president and founder of U.S. Concealed Carry Association.

Metcalfe, a staunch Second Amendment advocate, said earlier this month he has asked a House attorney to draft a resolution to impeach Peduto for the city's new gun control ordinances.

The new law restricts assault-style weapons such as the one used in the Tree of Life synagogue massacre in October that killed 11 and wounded seven. The law also prohibits most uses of armor-piercing ammunition and high-capacity magazines and permits the temporary seizure of guns from people who are determined to be a danger to themselves or others.

Peduto signed the legislation after city council approved it. Various Second Amendment proponents are challenging it in court.
