Thursday, July 11, 2013: The Supplies Have Arrived!

17 Pallets

A day of heavy lifting...

The Advance Team hit the ground running Thursday with the help of 6 medical school students and many staff members from Hospital Bendana. Throughout the day, hospital staff stopped by to welcome the return of Operation Walk Pittsburgh and offer help in whatever way they could. A total group effort led to an efficient day of unpacking 17 pallets from the cargo trailer and staging supplies for when the Travel Team was scheduled to arrive Friday.

After a round of meetings with hospital administrators to put the finishing touches on the preparations, the Advance Team is ready for the rest of the 60 travel team members to arrive in Honduras Friday morning to kickoff another successful international mission.

News crews from around San Pedro Sula toured the hospital to interview local Rotary Club leaders, hospital staff and Operation Walk Pittsburgh team members to promote this year’s trip, which for the second year is proving to be a citywide effort. The Advance Team took a break from a long day of unpacking to celebrate local leader, Padla Boquin’s birthday. She graciously spent the day working side by side with the team to make sure everything will be ready for when the rest of the team arrives.
