Zika Update By FalconER Urgent Care

Will Rainy Weather Bring Mosquitoes and Zika Danger?

Will rainy weather mean a bumper crop of mosquitoes and an increased threat of Zika virus? The Pennsylvania Health Department is closely watching the situation. So far, there are 18 confirmed cases of Zika virus in our state. However, there are 135 cases still in the testing stage. Meanwhile, the CDC says urine testing may be more reliable than blood testing for the Zika virus because the virus is harder to detect in the blood after a person has been infected for more than five days.

Health officials are urging everyone to be mosquito conscious. Wear long sleeve clothing, spray with safe levels of a DEET formulated repellent and avoid certain times of the day when mosquitoes are more prevalent like early morning and after dark.

If you suspect you have become infected by the Zika virus or have a fever or rash associated with mosquito bites, you may visit the FalconER Urgent Care in Cranberry Township at 1241 Freedom Road for an examination. No appointments are needed and the walk-in clinic is open 7 days per week from 9am until 9pm.
